Europe My Way

Whitney’s List of “Must-See’s”

LONDON

Stonehenge definitely makes the list. It is the most famous prehistoric monument in Britain and is like 5,000 years old!
Big Ben is another world famous landmark that I am dying to visit. It is located on the banks of the River Thames which will make for awesome pictures!
The London Eye as I’ve been told is something you can’t miss. The London Eye is the world’s largest farris wheel and is 450 feet at its highest point.

PARIS

Obviously the first on the “must-see’s” list of Paris is the Eiffel Tower. I am so excited to experience this structure in person! I’ve heard the view is amazing and up until this summer have only been able to imagine. Thanks to Darrin’s fabulous history class, I can’t wait to visit the Pompidou. This modern art museum is designed “inside-out”, in that the framework of the building is on the outside and the exterior escalators are enclosed in a transparent tube. Love it! Along with practically everything else that I want to see in Paris like the Louvre, Notre Dame, and Versailles, the Fondation le Corbusier would be way cool. It contains a collection of his work via audiovisuals, drawings, documents, prints, models, and a personal library.

Food

I’m not a huge fan of food in general and therefore really hate to spend a lot of money for it but unfortunately sweets are something I tend to splurge on. I am so excited to experience French pastries! Things such as tarts, parfaits, tranche cakes, croissants, viennoiserie, etc.!

This list barely skims the surface of what Europe has to offer. I hope that with the preparations that I have made and my passion for design I will be able to take in every bit of incredibleness that this experience is going to present. I just finished the freshman classes in interior design at USU which include; History of Interior Furnishings and Architecture I & II. I am so excited to take all that knowledge and put it into reality. From Gustav Eiffel in the 1800’s to Richard Rogers’ work today, I want to experience it all. Although the slideshows in class were great, I know I will gain such a greater appreciation for it all having experienced it for myself. I hope that my eyes will be opened and that my style of design will forever be benefited from this exposure to brilliant design.
